City Fair Park
Childress, Texas

Rating: 3/5
Site Details: 5 back-in sites, water and electric (30/50 Amp) hookups only, maximum 3 day stay
Pros: low cost ($15/night), easy to navigate and park, nice pond with walking path
Cons: dirt or grass sites, no sewer hookup, no amenities

This is a great place for an overnight stay when passing through town. We felt safe here as the place is well-lit and it is in the middle of downtown Childress. We would stay here again if we needed a place to pull in and sleep.

Lake Sweetwater Municipal Park
Sweetwater, Texas

Sweetwater Tx 1                  Sweetwater Tx 2

Rating: 4/5
Site Details: Sites are randomly dispersed, mostly pull-through, water and electric (30/50 Amp) hookups only
Pros: low cost ($10/night), beautiful scenery with lake nearby, located about 4 miles off I-20, very quiet, nice park with swimming and golf available
Cons: grass sites, no sewer hookup, difficult to find (have to use instructions on website; GPS will not take you to campsite)

This was our favorite overnight stay on our way back from Utah. We actually debated staying here a second night! The trees were so pretty, and there were not many people at the campground. The city of Sweetwater definitely has a gem here, and they take good care of the property!

Tyler State Park
Tyler, Texas

Tyler Tx State Park

Jake & Izzy loved watching the leaves blow around at this site!

Rating: 5/5
Site Details: Multiple site loops that are easy to navigate with a big rig (we made one loop twice because I was indecisive!) Concrete pads that are mostly level with various hookups available (full or partial).
Pros: Beautiful state park located close to I-20 that is easy to find and navigate, friendly staff, good prices ($18-$28/night)
Cons: Not all sites are built for big rigs, so choosing a site can be tricky. Maximum 14 day stay, no amenities.

Overall, this was a great overnight stop. We would absolutely come to this park again and stay for several days if we had the chance. The roads are maintained well, and it was an easy walk from our site to the lake where Russell took some great photos of the sunset and wildlife.
